Baseball Coaching Update
Washington State University announced the addition of Kimble Schuessler to its baseball coaching staff for the 2027 season, appointing him as an assistant coach focused on outfield development, first‑base duties and hitting instruction.
Schuessler arrives after a stint as a graduate assistant at Texas, where he contributed to the Longhorns’ run to the College World Series and honed his expertise under head coach Jim Schlossnagle.
The university also noted that Schuessler will replace Dan Bower, who departed to take a recruiting coordination and infield coaching role at Saint Martin’s University.
Schuessler’s playing pedigree includes a .326 career average, a .934 OPS and All‑Regional honors from 2024 and 2025, as well as a spot on the SEC All‑Defensive team in 2025.
Nathan Choate, the head coach of the Cougars, expressed enthusiasm about the hire, citing Schuessler’s toughness and deep knowledge of the game.
Volleyball Schedule Details
The Cougars’ women’s volleyball team released its complete non‑conference slate, headlined by a three‑day tournament from August 28‑30 that will feature matchups against Omaha, Montana and Central Michigan.
Following the tournament, the team will travel to face Long Island and Oregon in Eugene before returning home for contests against Lipscomb, Southern Utah and Washington.
The non‑conference schedule wraps up with two games against Long Beach State on September 17‑18, after which the Cougars open Pac‑12 play on September 24.
The full slate reflects a deliberate blend of regional rivals and mid‑major programs designed to test the team early in the season.
Basketball Series with Weber State
On the men’s basketball front, Washington State confirmed a home‑and‑home series with Weber State for the upcoming season and the following year.
The first meeting will take place on December 9 in Ogden, Utah, with the rematch scheduled for Pullman in the 2027‑28 campaign.
Weber State entered the season with a 16‑16 overall record and a 10‑8 mark in conference play, finishing the year ranked No. 202 on KenPom.
The team’s standout guard, Tijan Saine, entered the transfer portal but has yet to commit to a new program.
Coach Choate highlighted the value of the series, noting that it will provide competitive early‑season matchups and strengthen regional ties.
