Wayne Harris, a redshirt sophomore wide receiver for the Kent State Golden Flashes, has been named to the 2026 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, a 113‑player national cohort recognized for blending athletic talent with meaningful community service.
Service That Transcends the Gridiron
The Wuerffel Trophy, presented by the Wuerffel Foundation in partnership with Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association, honors college football players who demonstrate leadership through initiatives such as food recovery, youth mentorship and educational outreach. Harris’s nomination reflects his sustained involvement in canned‑food drives, food‑bank collaborations and recovery programs that address hunger in the region.
Beyond hunger relief, Harris has mentored high school students through the Tru2U program and the Bulldog Boys initiative, while also volunteering as a reading coach for elementary classrooms. His efforts illustrate a commitment to holistic development that aligns with the trophy’s broader mission.
From the watch list, eleven semifinalists will be announced in September, and the ultimate winner will be revealed on December 11 during The Home Depot College Football Awards show. The recipient will then lead the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, attend Heisman‑related events in New York City, and be celebrated at the Wuerffel Foundation’s PickleBowl: Heisman Edition, with a final gala scheduled for February 2027 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
Harris’s recognition also coincides with Kent State’s upcoming 2026 season, which opens on September 5 against South Carolina. Fans can secure tickets through KSUtix.com, ensuring that the university’s community‑focused spirit extends onto the field.
