Waynesburg Soccer Teams Head to Brazil for International Mission Trip

The upcoming Brazil mission blends competition, community service, and evangelism

The Waynesburg University men’s and women’s soccer squads are set to depart for Brazil this summer, marking the first time both teams and their coaching staff will travel abroad together.

Organized by Missionary Athletes International, a Gospel‑centered ministry, the itinerary will take the teams to São Paulo, Monte Santo, Atibaia and Pedra Grande Mountain between July 30 and August 9.

Coaches George DeAugustino and Treg Lunger, who have previously partnered with the ministry on domestic projects, will lead the effort, which aims to foster community, provide personal growth and share the Christian message through the sport they love.

A Journey of Faith and Football

The schedule includes a series of coaching clinics where the players will work with local youth, followed by service projects that address community needs in each host town.

Matches against regional teams are also on the agenda, giving the Waynesburg athletes a chance to test their skills against international competition while building cross‑cultural friendships.

The trip aligns with NCAA rules that permit international travel once every three years, ensuring equitable opportunities across all campuses, and it comes after a season in which the men posted a 7‑6‑5 record and the women finished 17‑3‑2.

Beyond the on‑field action, the mission underscores a broader purpose: to use soccer as a platform for outreach, mentorship and the proclamation of the Gospel, reflecting the university’s commitment to holistic student development.
