Weber State Basketball Prepares for Tough Nonconference Road

Opening matchup at Oregon State sets tone for both men’s and women’s teams

The 2026‑27 basketball season is fast approaching for Weber State, and the Wildcats are set to open their schedule with a road test at Oregon State on November 2. The matchup marks the first of what promises to be a demanding nonconference slate for both the men’s and women’s programs.

Opening night at Oregon State

The Beavers will be led by first‑year head coach Justin Joyner, who inherits a roster that includes standout forward Xavion Staton, versatile forward Jackson Rasmussen and sharpshooter Jemai Lake. The team also features emerging talent such as Josiah, adding depth to a backcourt that looks ready to compete.

Weber State’s home portion of the nonconference schedule includes a November 7 showdown with Utah Valley, a November 25 contest against CSUN, and a previously reported game versus Washington State. The Wildcats will also host Lincoln University (California) on November 20, giving the program additional opportunities to fine‑tune before conference play.

The women’s team has a similarly packed slate, highlighted by home games against Westminster on November 3, Denver on November 7 and Houston Christian on November 14. A doubleheader on November 7 will see the men’s team host Utah Valley while the women travel to face Denver, underscoring the program’s coordinated approach to the season.

Beyond the home venues, the women’s schedule takes them on the road to Cal State Fullerton, Colorado State, Seattle, Utah State, BYU and La Sierra, with games scattered through November and December. Each stop presents a different style of play, from the high‑altitude contests in Colorado to the coastal challenges in Seattle.

Historically, the Wildcats hold a 1‑4 record against Oregon State and have not met CSUN since 2001, making the upcoming games both a fresh challenge and a chance to rewrite past narratives.

The preseason also featured exhibitions against Division II opponents Westminster (October 24) and Colorado Mesa (October 28). Guiding the men’s side is former Layton Christian head coach Casey Stanley, who returns key contributors Brady Smith and Quentin Meza to the lineup, adding continuity to the roster.

With nine nonconference games already locked in and up to three more openings still to be filled, the Wildcats are poised to test their depth early and build momentum heading into the Big Sky season.
