Max Weir has been appointed head baseball coach at the University of Massachusetts, bringing a blend of playing experience and front‑office savvy to the program.
His recent stint as a co‑head coach with Brandon Shileikis during the 2025‑26 season culminated in an 11‑7 finish in the final six conference series, a run that saw the Minutemen surge in the second half of the year.
Weir’s coaching résumé includes a record‑setting tenure at Nichols College, where he guided the Bison to a program‑best 29 victories, and prior roles at Gardner‑Webb University and American International College.
Before returning to Amherst, he spent a season with the Boston Red Sox on the Fan and Youth Engagement team, honing his ability to connect the club with its community.
Under his guidance, junior pitcher Callen Powers earned 2026 All‑MAC Second Team honors, posting a 3.96 ERA and striking out 75 batters, both ranking among the league’s best.
Sophomore outfielder/DH Gavin O’Brien was recognized as MAC Player of the Week and earned Scholar‑Athlete honors after slugging .623 in conference play.
