Hunter Kaliser, a lifelong resident of Wellington, Florida, has turned his lifelong love of basketball into a practical learning experience as a volunteer manager for the University of Central Florida’s men’s basketball program.
A Hands‑On Apprenticeship
In this capacity, Kaliser logs at least 19 hours each week assisting with practices, coordinating player workouts, and supporting the team’s day‑to‑day operations. Though the position is unpaid, he embraces the opportunity to learn the inner workings of a Division I program under the guidance of head coach Johnny Dawkins.
Kaliser is currently enrolled in two summer courses at UCF, pursuing a degree in business management that he hopes will complement his sports‑industry ambitions. The coursework allows him to balance academic rigor with the demanding schedule of a college basketball team.
While he remains focused on home games, Kaliser acknowledges that travel for away contests is not part of his role. As an official member of the program, he receives team apparel and equipment, reinforcing his sense of belonging within the squad.
His experience reflects a growing trend of students gaining real‑world exposure in collegiate athletics, and Kaliser sees this volunteer stint as a pivotal stepping stone toward a future career that blends business acumen with a passion for basketball.
