Wes Mendes, a right‑handed pitcher from Tampa, was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Scholar‑Athlete of the Year for baseball, a distinction that marks the seventh time an FSU player has received the award and the second consecutive year the honor has gone to a Seminole.
A Season Defined by Excellence
Mendes capped his junior year by leading the nation in strikeouts and complete games, while also earning five All‑America selections and being named the ACC Pitcher of the Year. He maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA in social science during the spring 2026 semester, underscoring his commitment to academic rigor.
The Seminoles finished the year with a 40‑19 record, marking the third straight season the program reached the 40‑win threshold. Their performance secured the 19th ACC Regular Season Championship and the 20th ACC Tournament title, and it earned the team its 62nd NCAA appearance, hosting a regional for the 38th time in program history.
Eleven members of the Florida State softball squad were recognized on the Academic All‑ACC team, with ten posting GPAs of 3.50 or higher. Their scholarly achievements complemented the baseball program’s success, reinforcing the university’s broader culture of athletic and academic distinction.

Guard Kam Taylor, who previously shone at UNC Asheville, received an invitation to the Jayson Tatum Elite Camp after earning First Team All‑Big South honors as a sophomore. The camp, curated by NBA star Jayson Tatum, who captured the 2024 championship with the Boston Celtics, provides a platform for top prospects to showcase their talents.
