The University of West Florida announced this week that its football program will debut a full 2026 schedule, marking the first season the Argonauts will compete at the Football Championship Subdivision level.
University President Manny Diaz Jr. said the move reflects a bold step forward for Argonaut Athletics, signaling a new chapter that will showcase the team against a blend of non‑conference foes and United Athletic Conference rivals.
A New Era for Argonaut Football
The season opens on August 27 with a home matchup against Southern Illinois, a program that reached the FCS playoffs a year ago, giving the Argonauts an early test on their own turf.
Later in the fall, the team will host Northeastern State on October 10 and West Alabama on October 17, providing additional opportunities for the squad to build momentum in front of local fans.
Road trips include a September 26 visit to Southeast Missouri and later contests at Central Arkansas, Abilene Christian, Eastern Kentucky, North Alabama and West Georgia, rounding out a demanding non‑conference slate.
Conference Play and Future Outlook
In United Athletic Conference action, the Argonauts will welcome Austin Peay and Tarleton State to Pensacola, while traveling to face rivals such as Central Arkansas and Abilene Christian, a schedule designed to test the team against a variety of Division I opponents.
Head coach Kaleb Nobles said he is excited about the 2026 season, noting that the roster is shaping up to compete with the best the FCS has to offer and that the experience will accelerate the program’s growth.
The announcement underscores a broader ambition within UWF athletics to elevate the university’s profile, attract recruits, and foster a stronger connection between the campus community and its football tradition.
