Semifinals Deliver Drama
The 6A state baseball semifinals delivered two contrasting narratives on Tuesday night, as West Linn rallied late to defeat Tualatin 5‑2 and Clackamas cruised past Jesuit 8‑1.
West Linn’s comeback hinged on a three‑run fifth inning that broke a 1‑1 tie. Carson Dobile’s clutch single in the seventh brought home Cohen Bissell with the decisive run, sealing the victory for the Lions.
Tualatin had tied the game when Luke Bergmann scored on a wild pitch, but the Lions’ offense surged ahead, with Dobile and Bissell each collecting two hits.
Meanwhile, Clackamas exploded early, scoring all eight runs in the first four innings. Ben Foglio led the way with three hits and two RBI, while pitchers Cade King and Jaxon Wetzler combined to shut out Jesuit.
Jesuit managed only four hits, and starter Ethan Peng surrendered five earned runs before being pulled.
The Lions will meet the Cavaliers on June 6 for the state title, a rematch that promises another battle of pitching depth and timely hitting.
Key contributors from the semifinal rosters include Carson Dobile, Cohen Bissell, Luke Bergmann, Trenton Hertzog, Calen Simonelic, Carson Neil, Ben Foglio, Jacob Strube, Ryder Listy, Cade King, Jaxon Wetzler, and Ethan Peng, all of whom are expected to play pivotal roles in the championship game.
