Morning Practices Set to Safeguard Players
West Rusk High School’s football program announced that its Fall Camp will begin August 3 with all practice sessions scheduled for the early morning. The change is a direct response to UIL heat‑safety guidelines that limit activity when afternoon temperatures become unsafe for student‑athletes.
Coaches highlighted that the current heat makes it impractical to conduct full-length practices later in the day, and moving sessions to cooler hours ensures both comfort and safety for the team.
The shift also requires careful coordination with the school’s band program. Band Director Grady Haffner has been instrumental in aligning the football schedule with band rehearsals, allowing student‑athletes to participate in both activities without conflict.
As the school year progresses, the program plans to transition to an adjusted practice timetable that accommodates academic commitments while preserving the safety measures introduced during camp.
