The 80th edition of the OVAC Rudy Mumley All Star Football Game is set to showcase the finest senior talent from across the region, and the West Virginia squad enters the contest with a roster that reads like a who's who of high school standouts.
Quarterback Ty Sperringer Leads the Charge
At the helm of the offense, quarterback Ty Sperringer brings a dynamic dual-threat skill set that has made him one of the most watched prospects in the state. His ability to extend plays with his legs, combined with a precise passing arsenal, gives the West Virginia team a versatile weapon that can adapt to any defensive look.
Complementing the backfield, running backs Kade Koroneos and Roman Konchesky add depth and explosiveness. Koroneos arrives after a record-breaking state championship season in which he amassed 415 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, while Konchesky, who also sees time at linebacker, logged 164 tackles and 20 tackles for loss as a senior.
A Deep Talent Pool Across the Board
The defensive side of the ball is anchored by a cadre of linebackers who have proven themselves both on the high school field and in the classroom. Colin Magers, a stalwart for the Cameron Dragons, posted 40 tackles and two quarterback sacks last season, while Marcus Reed, a four-year letterman for the Brooke Bruins, brings veteran poise to the unit.
Daniel Howland, who surged for nearly 1,000 yards last year with the Weir Red Riders, will provide additional firepower in the backfield, having gained 932 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. Nolan Yanchak, a multi-position standout from Wheeling Park, contributed 145 tackles and an interception from his linebacker spot.
Carter Paczewski, another key piece of the Cameron Dragons' defense, recorded 113 tackles, including 58 solo stops, and Marcos Kniska, a career tackler with 336 stops, earned the prestigious Chuck Howley Award as the state's top linebacker last season.
The breadth of experience extends beyond the field, with several players hailing from institutions such as West Virginia University, Denison University, Glenville State University, West Liberty University, and Coate Rosemary Hall Prep School, underscoring the diverse academic backgrounds that enrich the team's chemistry.
The collective résumé of the West Virginia all-star team reflects a blend of athletic excellence and academic achievement, positioning them as a formidable presence in the upcoming showcase.
