A Rising Force in State Soccer
The West Virginia Futbol Club, a youth travel soccer organization headquartered in the Mountain State, fields competitive teams for players aged twelve through eighteen. While the roster draws talent from across West Virginia, a handful of athletes hail from neighboring Ohio, adding a regional flavor to the squads.
At the forefront of the club’s recent achievements is the U16 side, which currently holds the No. 1 position in state rankings and sits at No. 65 nationwide and in Canada. This standing reflects not only raw skill but also the relentless dedication of both players and coaching staff.
Coach Fayanga Keita, a native of West Africa who has called West Virginia home for several years, has been credited with accelerating the developmental curve of the program. His blend of technical instruction and motivational leadership has turned the U16 squad into a cohesive unit that competes with confidence.
For the youngsters on the team, representing their home state carries a deep sense of pride. They speak of the responsibility they feel to serve as role models for younger players and to demonstrate that elite soccer can thrive in West Virginia.
The upcoming schedule adds further excitement. The U16 team is slated to travel to St. Louis for the National League Cup Finals from July 7‑9, and later will head to Salt Lake City for the 2026 National Championships between July 13‑23. Both events promise to showcase the club’s rising profile on a national stage.
