A Revamped Squad
The West Virginia Mountaineers baseball program is reshaping its roster after a busy period in the transfer portal, bringing in nine new players, among them left‑handed pitcher Colton Hartman, while also welcoming an eleven‑player freshman class, ten of whom are already on campus.
Among the newcomers are draft‑eligible underclassmen such as pitchers Maxx Yehl and Dawson Montesa, third baseman Tyrus Hall, and utility man Armani Guzman, all of whom add depth and experience to the squad.
Coach Steve Sabins, who guided the team to its first appearance in the Men’s College World Series, emphasizes that athleticism and mental toughness are the cornerstones of his recruiting philosophy, seeking athletes who love to work and possess the right mindset.
Despite challenges posed by weather, travel logistics, and the geography of the region, the Mountaineers remain focused on turning their recent successes into future championships, a vision that Sabins says hinges on finding the right blend of talent and work ethic.
The roster also includes players such as Maxx Yehl, Dawson Montesa, JJ Glasscock, Tyrus Hall, Armani Guzman, Gavin Kelly, and Matthew Graveline, who bring a mix of experience and potential as the team looks ahead to the upcoming season.
