Western Carolina University’s football program kicked off its 2026 preseason camp this week, marking the start of a 14‑practice stretch that will run through the summer before the fall semester begins.
The first two sessions were limited to helmets only, giving players a chance to focus on fundamentals without the added weight of shoulder pads. By the end of the week the team will transition to full‑pad drills as the intensity ramps up.
Two intra‑squad scrimmages are slated, with the second one designed to mimic the opening matchup against Eastern Kentucky, providing a live test of the new schemes.
New Coaching Direction
Head coach Kerwin Bell is overseeing the camp, while former player Nick Reveiz has taken on the role of defensive coordinator, bringing fresh ideas to the unit.
The Catamounts were slotted fourth in the preseason Southern Conference poll, a reflection of the league’s depth, and three players earned preseason All‑SoCon honors.

Defensive back Ken Moore Jr., wide receiver AJ Colombo and offensive lineman Zach Watson were recognized, with Moore Jr. also appearing on the Buck Buchanan Award watch list after earning two‑time preseason All‑America honors.
