A Legacy of Academic Excellence
The Western Carolina University women's soccer team has once again been celebrated for its scholarly performance, earning the College Team Academic Award from United Soccer Coaches for the 21st straight season in 2025‑26. The distinction ties the program to a remarkable run of consistency that began under head coach Chad Miller in 2005 and has continued through his 17‑year tenure.
This year's squad posted a collective 3.64 grade point average, positioning them among only two Southern Conference teams to appear on the academic honor list. The metric reflects a broader trend of academic distinction that now spans more than two decades, reinforcing the program's reputation as a model for student‑athlete success.
Player Recognition and Historic Firsts
Six members of the 2025‑26 roster were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District team, including Isabella DeMarco, Ava Robitaille, Milla Syska, Abbie Wise, Leanne Trudel and Sofia Goclowski. DeMarco and Robitaille additionally earned spots on the USC Scholar All‑South Region team, while DeMarco made history as the first Catamount to receive USC Scholar All‑American honors.
The academic accolades come alongside a growing list of on‑field milestones. The team will open its preseason schedule with a home match against Wright State on August 8 at 2 p.m., a contest that will serve as a preview of the upcoming regular‑season opener against Winthrop on August 13, which will stream live on ESPN+.
