A New Era of Line Play
Western Carolina University’s 2026 offensive line is being constructed around the principles of versatility and redundancy, a strategy championed by coach Jeremy King. Rather than assigning strict position groups, King emphasizes a holistic development model that treats the line as a single, interchangeable unit capable of adapting to any defensive front.
The unit features nine returning veterans who collectively have logged 147 career games and 93 starts, providing a deep reservoir of experience. In addition, transfers such as Isaac Boulger, who arrived from Auburn, and the McIver brothers, who bring experience from Coastal Carolina and Gardner‑Webb, add depth and skill diversity. King’s approach, inspired by Georgia coach Kirby Smart, seeks to create redundancy that can sustain performance throughout a grueling season.
Head coach Kerwin Bell has set high expectations, demanding that the line be versatile, violent and mentally poised. Since Bell’s arrival, the Catamounts’ offense has climbed national rankings in yardage, first‑down efficiency and scoring, laying a foundation for the ambitious goals of the 2026 campaign.
The season will open on August 29 against Eastern Kentucky at E.J. Whitmire Stadium, a game that will showcase traditions such as the Freshmen Run and a drone light show. The home opener is sponsored by Ingles and supported by media partners Kiss Country and Star 104.3, with tickets available through Catamount Athletics.
