Western Colorado Mountaineers prepare for a demanding 2026 soccer campaign

A packed schedule of road trips, RMAC showdowns and a November tournament defines the upcoming season

A full slate of 16 matches

Western Colorado University’s men’s soccer team will contest sixteen games during the 2026 season, blending home fixtures with extensive road travel. The schedule was released in a recent announcement that highlights a mixture of conference play, non‑conference matchups and exhibition contests.

The campaign opens on August 27 with a home game at Rady Field against West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas. The Mountaineers hope to avenge a 3‑2 defeat from the previous year that was decided in the 88th minute, adding a narrative edge to the early‑season encounter.

Three programs that advanced deep into the 2025 NCAA Division II tournament will meet the Mountaineers during RMAC regular‑season play. The University of Colorado Colorado Springs and Colorado School of Mines both reached the national semifinals, while Colorado Mesa University exited in the first round. Their differing tournament outcomes set the stage for competitive matchups later in the schedule.

After a road trip that includes a visit to Eastern New Mexico in Portales, New Mexico, Western will host non‑conference games against Lubbock Christian University and Angelo State University in early September. These fixtures provide additional testing before the team settles into conference play.

The remainder of the season features a series of RMAC contests, exhibition games and late‑season road trips that culminate in home and away matches against MSU Denver, Colorado Christian and Fort Lewis. The schedule also marks the end of the regular season with a series of fixtures that lead directly into the conference tournament.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference postseason tournament is slated for early November, with the first round on November 1, semifinals on November 4 and the championship game on November 8. The timing positions the Mountaineers for a strong finish to the year.

Gregg Petcoff, assistant athletic director for communications at Western Colorado University, has been instrumental in coordinating the release of the schedule and promoting the upcoming season to fans and stakeholders.
