A New Chapter for Broncos Basketball
Western Michigan University announced that head coach Kahil Fennell has secured the commitment of Janis Jünemann, a 6‑11 center originally from Latvia.
Jünemann arrives after a stint in Germany where he played for BG Göettingen in both the ProA and Basketball Bundesliga, bringing a blend of size and international experience to the Broncos roster.
During his most recent season with BG Göettingen, he posted averages of 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game, numbers that reflect a role as a defensive anchor and occasional scorer.
His contributions to the Latvian national team at the 2024 FIBA U20 EuroBasket Division B further highlighted his potential, as he helped the side to a 5.9 rebounds per game average while scoring 3.9 points.
Coach Fennell emphasized that Jünemann’s work ethic and versatility fit the program’s vision, noting that the player can stretch the floor and protect the rim.
The addition is part of a broader recruitment strategy that aims to infuse the team with global talent, a move that aligns with the university’s expanding outreach in Europe.
Fans can expect to see Jünemann in action when the Broncos open their season in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where the campus community is eager to welcome a new era of play.
Off the court, the university highlighted its partnership with BG Göettingen and its ongoing collaboration with FIBA, underscoring a commitment to developing talent on an international stage.
