Campuswide World Cup Festivities Begin
Western Washington University is turning its Viking Union into a hub of soccer enthusiasm as it hosts daily World Cup watch parties from June 11 through July 15, 2026. The initiative invites students, staff and local fans to gather and cheer on the tournament’s biggest matches together.
The opening fixtures will be staged in the Underground Coffeehouse on June 11 and 12, with kick‑off times set for noon, offering an early‑day atmosphere that blends caffeine and commentary. Those matches set the tone for a month‑long celebration of global football.
Throughout the remainder of the tournament, weekday games will be streamed in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room from Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. This schedule ensures that even early‑morning classes can pause for a quick viewing break before returning to their studies.
Beyond the live broadcasts, the university has opened a WWU World Cup Prediction Contest, giving participants a chance to test their forecasting skills and win prizes. The contest runs in parallel with the watch parties, adding a competitive edge to the communal viewing experience.
