The Western Wayne Athletic Conference is gearing up for the 2025 high school football season, with five programs — Redford Union, Redford Thurston, Dearborn Heights Robichaud, Romulus and Garden City — each chasing playoff berths and conference honors.
Redford Union’s quest for a first district crown
Under coach Ian Iler, Redford Union returns standout Tatum Moore, who amassed 1,875 all‑purpose yards and 20 touchdowns last year, and a core group that earned All‑Conference recognition, aiming to translate a strong defense into its inaugural district title.
Meanwhile, Redford Thurston, led by veteran William Webster, looks to build on a historic win over its crosstown rival and share the WWAC crown, with Jacarie Williams taking the reins as full‑time quarterback.
Playoff aspirations and new leadership
Dearborn Heights Robichaud, coached by Matthew Alexander, is again playoff‑eligible after four of the past five seasons, and retains offensive coordinator Keyshawn Martin, hoping to finally break through for a postseason victory.
Romulus, under Antwain Mack, leans on returning playmakers such as Jayden Morgan and Micah Jones, targeting a fourth straight playoff run, while Garden City hopes a Week 1 rematch with Dearborn Edsel Ford will set a positive tone.
Fresh faces and fresh ambitions
First‑year coaches Chris Merrell at Melvindale and Stephen Fletcher at Dearborn Heights Annapolis are tasked with reversing recent struggles, with Merrell’s squad featuring top weapon Jo’Ziah Strong alongside quarterback Brock Lambart and Damon Vann.
The conference also welcomes fresh talent like Zaire Agnew, Daniel Collins, Jesse Davis and Brandon Johnson, who will look to contribute as the season unfolds.
