A Fresh Start for the Chargers
Westview High’s football program is gearing up for the 2026 campaign after capturing its second consecutive State Championship last year, a feat that has set the bar for a potential dynasty. The team will open its season on Friday, August 21, and the excitement in the community is palpable.
The Chargers finished the 2025 season undefeated, shattering nine TSSAA championship records and cementing their place in recent Tennessee sports history.
Daily Progress Over Past Glory
Head Coach Matt McConnell emphasizes that the work begins anew each day, focusing on small improvements rather than past triumphs. "We are not looking back; we are looking forward to getting better every single practice," he said.
Replacing the Legends
Key receivers CD Damron and Donteze Joy have departed, leaving large shoes to fill. Their absence is felt, but the coaching staff sees the vacancies as chances for other players to step up and showcase their own talents.
The departure of those standout players also brings a fresh tactical perspective, allowing the offense to experiment with new formations and play styles.
New Faces, New Ambitions
Four‑star prospect Ja’Kye Beard has joined the roster, bringing 13 FBS offers and a reputation for explosive play. Junior quarterback Graham Simpson, who believes the team is better this year, is eager to orchestrate the offense and drive the chase for another title.
Both newcomers share a common goal: to help the Chargers build a lasting dynasty, starting with a strong performance in the upcoming season.
The message from the locker room is clear — focus on the day at hand, execute the fundamentals, and let the results follow.
