White Center to Host "Gather for Goals" Soccer Festival
The neighborhood of White Center will transform a three‑block stretch of 16th Avenue SW into a pedestrian‑only zone on June 26 for a community‑focused soccer celebration.
Organized by the King County Department of Local Services in partnership with White Center Pride, the event will broadcast matches from the world’s largest soccer competition on five giant screens set up along the closed street.
Local vendors will line the corridor, offering street food, family‑friendly activities and a marketplace that highlights the area’s unique cultural fabric.
Organizers are encouraging residents to arrive via public transit, underscoring the festival’s commitment to accessibility and sustainability.
Leon Richardson and Eliot Hills, long‑time community advocates, are among the volunteers helping to coordinate the festivities.
The festival aims to showcase the inclusive spirit that defines White Center, bringing together residents of all ages and backgrounds for a day of sport, food and local commerce.
City officials hope the event will serve as a model for future neighborhood‑centered gatherings that blend entertainment with community building.
