A New Era for the Shockers
Wichita State University announced this week that it has extended the contract of men’s basketball coach Paul Mills through June 30, 2031, a move that locks the program’s leadership in place for the next decade.
Mills has overseen a rapid ascent, guiding the Shockers to 58 victories in just three seasons and posting a 24‑win campaign that included a run to the NIT quarterfinals.
The extension comes as the team climbs to second place in the American Athletic Conference, a standing that reflects a program that has improved win totals each year, climbing from 15 to 19 to 24.
Building on Success
Mills’ impact is also evident in the development of players such as Xavier Bell and Kenyon Giles, who have earned First Team All‑Conference honors in back‑to‑back seasons, signaling a pipeline of talent that the university hopes to sustain.
The non‑conference slate will feature home matchups against New Mexico and Boise State, while neutral‑site games in Kansas City against Drake and Kansas State promise additional exposure for the program.
With the new contract in place, the Shockers aim to translate their recent momentum into deeper postseason runs and, ultimately, a return to the NCAA tournament.
