Wild Child Athletics Launches Girls Flag Football Takeover at Wayne State University

Event aims to boost confidence and scholarship pathways for young female athletes in Metro Detroit

Empowering the Next Generation of Female Athletes

On August 20, Wild Child Athletics will transform the campus of Wayne State University into a vibrant hub for girls’ flag football, hosting a Take Over event that runs from 6 to 8:15 p.m. The evening is designed to welcome newcomers, showcase the sport’s potential and create a memorable experience for participants across Metro Detroit.

The program features a series of flag‑football stations, interactive meet‑ups with women athletes and community leaders, and confidence‑building activities that encourage girls to try the sport in a supportive environment. Organizers say the event is part of a broader effort to increase participation in girls’ flag football throughout the region.

Aubrey Kirby, an incoming first‑grader, says she is eager to try flag football because she believes her track background will give her an edge. Audrey King, a junior athlete, sees the sport as a pathway to scholarships and experience before committing to a full‑time program. Candice Davis Price, founder of Wild Child Athletics, explains that the event was crafted to be both welcoming and memorable, featuring giveaways and custom gear for every participant.

Beyond the fun, the initiative reflects Wild Child Athletics’ mission to empower young girls through sport, confidence‑building and community engagement. By connecting participants with scholarship opportunities and collegiate pathways, the organization hopes to spark a lasting increase in girls’ involvement in flag football across Metro Detroit.

Parents, coaches and local partners are invited to join the movement, which organizers say will not only introduce more girls to the game but also strengthen the overall sports community in the region.
