The Wilder Baseball Club Seniors have earned a spot in the World Series of U-19 Baseball for the second straight year, a testament to their resilience and the strong support they receive from their hometowns of Sequim and Port Angeles.
Head Coach Zac Moore, who has guided the squad since its inception, stresses that the team’s cohesion and love for the game are the foundation of their success. "We’ve built something special here," Moore said, noting that the players treat each other like family and that the community’s donations and volunteer efforts have been indispensable.
This year’s roster blends talented high school athletes with a single college player, creating a unique mix of youthful energy and seasoned experience. Their invitation to the tournament came after a rigorous selection process, underscoring the team’s earned place on the world stage.
A Global Battle Awaits
The Seniors will square off against a diverse field that includes international powerhouses such as Chinese Taipei, Puerto Rico, Panama, and Canada. In their pool, they are slated to meet Highland, Indiana, on July 29 at 10:00 a.m. local time, followed by matches against Mexico, Stafford, Virginia, and Mid‑Country SW.
Advancement hinges on finishing among the top three in their pool, a challenge that Coach Moore views as an opportunity rather than a setback. "Every game is a second chance," he remarked, emphasizing the team’s focus on seizing momentum when it arises.
Beyond the diamond, the tournament highlights the power of community involvement. Local businesses and families have rallied to fund travel, equipment, and travel expenses, turning the team’s journey into a collective endeavor that extends far beyond the players themselves.
