A Return That Resonates
Will Lampkin, a seasoned coach with a history that stretches back to the mid‑2000s, has returned to the Upstate to take on the role of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Kingstree High School, re‑uniting with his former protégé Brandon Cantrell.
Cantrell, who had previously served as Lampkin’s assistant, now leads a staff that blends fresh energy with familiar faces. James Price, the school’s athletic director, will continue to oversee the program while also handling defensive coordination, while Diallo Cooper takes charge of the running backs, Antawn Brunson mentors the wide receivers, and Richard Montgomery works with the offensive line.
Building a Balanced Program
Price, who also serves as the girls’ head coach, expressed excitement about the upcoming 2026‑27 football season, noting that the coaching team is committed to developing not only better athletes but also productive students. The staff’s philosophy emphasizes discipline, teamwork and academic growth.
The Blazers have been busy in the offseason, staging several 7‑on‑7 scrimmages and an 11‑on‑11 practice with Georgetown over the summer. Their schedule will see them host the Lake City Jamboree on August 14, a venue made necessary by unfinished field work at Lake City High, before opening the season on August 20 against Marion.
Beyond football, the school’s sports program will be shaped by new leadership in other disciplines. Samantha Segres has taken over as the new volleyball head coach, replacing Ameisha Owens, while Shawnte’ Evans begins his third year as the boys’ basketball coach. Leonard Montgomery returns to lead the baseball team, and track and field will be guided by Jason Myers for the boys and Christi English for the girls.
Price remains optimistic about the overall athletic landscape at Kingstree High, highlighting the hard work and dedication of each coach as the school looks to improve on a 4‑7 record from the previous year and build a sustainable culture of excellence.
