Will Seward, a senior standout from Hoggard High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, thought his basketball journey might have ended after graduation.
During his high school career he helped the Vikings reach their first state championship game in 56 years, averaged 16.3 points per game, and finished with more than 900 points and 400 rebounds, cementing his place among the school’s all‑time greats.
In a surprise turn, the University of North Carolina Wilmington extended an unexpected scholarship offer, and on May 27 Seward signed his letter of intent to join the Seahawks, following fellow local star Kellum Brown, who had committed earlier that month.
A New Chapter with the Seahawks
Seward said he is eager to contribute to a program that has been building momentum in the Colonial Athletic Association, and he hopes to help the team chase its first conference title.
Coach Joseph King, who has been mentoring the local talent, praised Seward’s work ethic and predicted that his addition will strengthen the roster for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, analyst Zack Allen noted that the influx of Wilmington talent signals a growing pipeline for the university.
