Four-star kicker William Bowers announced his commitment to Iowa State on Sunday, choosing the Cyclones over a slate of prestigious programs.
A season to remember
During the 2025 campaign, Bowers converted 58 of 62 kickoffs into touchbacks and averaged 59.1 yards per kick, showcasing a leg that consistently flipped field position.
He also proved reliable on extra points, nailing 42 of 45 attempts, and drilled 7 of 12 field goals, the longest reaching 42 yards.
Roots in Tennessee
Hailing from Elizabethton, a small town steeped in early American history, Bowers brings a blend of tradition and modern athleticism to Ames. The town, home to the historic Watauga Association, has produced athletes who excel on the national stage.
His 6‑foot, 202‑pound frame and precise technique caught the eye of coaches across the country, leading to offers from Air Force, Army, Bowling Green, Navy and Memphis before he settled on Iowa State.
Looking ahead
Coaches expect Bowers to compete for starting duties immediately, citing his strong leg and poise under pressure. The addition bolsters the Cyclones’ special teams unit as they aim to climb the Big 12 standings in the coming season.
