Willmar American Legion Extends Winning Streak with 12-2 Victory Over Foley

Key performances from Madsen, Hoppe, and Ellingson power the team to fourth straight win

Willmar’s American Legion baseball team continued its winning ways on Tuesday, posting a 12‑2 victory over Foley to claim its fourth straight win.

Right‑hander Jordan Ellingson earned the win, delivering four solid innings in which he struck out seven batters while allowing just two runs.

Offensive firepower

Tyler Madsen was a catalyst at the plate, going 2‑for‑2 with four RBIs, a run scored and two stolen bases. His counterpart, Alex Hoppe, added a 2‑for‑4 performance that included a double, two runs, two RBIs and a steal, helping the offense pull away early.

Granite Falls’ dominant showing

Granite Falls also turned heads at the Northland Baseball VFW/Junior Legion Classic, where the team posted three victories in a single day. The squad opened with a 9‑3 win over Thunder Bay, followed by a 20‑1 rout of Esko and a 5‑2 triumph over Proctor.

Lane Wohlman was a standout for Granite Falls, going 3‑for‑5 against Esko with a double, three RBIs and two runs, and adding a 3‑for‑3 effort against Proctor that featured two doubles and two runs scored. Gunnar Fagen and Kolten Blankenhagen each contributed three hits in the Thunder Bay game.

The back‑to‑back successes underscore the depth of talent across central Minnesota’s summer baseball circuit and set the stage for upcoming matchups later this month.
