The Willow Springs football program, once defined by a winless 2023 campaign, is now poised for a turnaround as it prepares for the upcoming season under new leadership. The team finished the previous year with three victories, a stark improvement from zero, and enters the new slate with optimism.
A New Era of Ambition
Jake Brookshire, a Willow Springs alumnus who previously served as an assistant, has taken over as head coach. He emphasizes culture, competition and a balanced offensive attack that seeks to blend the passing and running games.
Returning talent provides a solid foundation. Junior quarterback Caden Lee will build on his 1,456 passing yards and 17 touchdowns from last season, while also contributing 337 rushing yards and five rushing scores. Wide receiver Jeremiah Galloway, a second‑team all‑conference selection, recorded 31 receptions for 605 yards and seven touchdowns and is expected to exceed those numbers.
Key Players to Watch
The receiving corps also welcomes back Brady James, whose athleticism and strength gains have generated buzz among teammates and coaches. In the backfield, Hezekiah Galloway, Braden Scarbrough, Logan Bryan and Aiden Messex are competing for starting spots, promising depth and versatility.
The offensive line will be anchored by veterans Kirill Gantyuk and Gabe Wilson, whose experience is crucial for Brookshire’s goal of establishing a dominant running attack.
Defensively, junior linebacker Dane Flynn returns from an injury‑marred freshman year and is expected to lead the middle with his playmaking ability and hard‑hitting style.
Culture and Competition
Brookshire stresses that every practice and matchup should feel like a battle, fostering a spirit of fun and fierce competition. The schedule includes a jamboree against Mountain Grove and Thayer, as well as key games against Mountain Grove Panthers and Ash Grove, giving the team multiple chances to test its progress.
