A New Chapter for Winneconne Football
Winneconne High School’s football program celebrated a milestone in 2025, capturing the Division 4 state championship and securing the program’s second title, only to discover that triumph would usher in a new set of challenges.
The undefeated squad will field just five returning starters next season, forcing coaches to rebuild much of the lineup while navigating the transition to Division 3 for postseason play.
Seniors such as Ryan Quigley, who earned honorable‑mention all‑Bay Conference honors as a receiver, and Mason Mathe, the touchdown hero in the title game, will anchor the limited experience that remains.
At quarterback, Broderick Stille will take the snap after Brody Schaffer’s graduation, while junior lineman Baylor Van Bommel and kicker Andrew Dorn return to provide continuity on offense.
Coaches Ryan Krings and Nate Ryf have emphasized that the team will be targeted by opponents eager to dethrone the champions, and they are focusing on effort, leadership and a competitive Bay Conference schedule.
The preseason rankings place Winneconne at No. 8, and the Wolves open the season on August 20 against Wrightstown before heading into conference play on September 4.

Despite the limited number of starters, the coaching staff believes the blend of seasoned seniors and promising juniors creates a foundation for sustained success.
The defensive unit, which allowed just 8.4 points per game a year ago, must replace key contributors, but the early emphasis on discipline suggests the team will remain competitive.
The schedule includes the China Bull rivalry and a series of Bay Conference matchups, forcing the Wolves to meet heightened expectations head‑on.
