Preseason Poll Places Warriors Ninth
Winona State University’s women’s soccer program has been rewarded with a ninth‑overall ranking in the 2026 preseason Coaches’ Poll released by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, a placement that signals cautious optimism as the Warriors prepare for a new campaign.
Head coach Delaney Marier, now in her third year at the helm, guided the team to a 7‑6‑4 overall record and a 6‑6‑3 conference slate in 2025, accumulating 104 points in the league’s poll. Marier’s philosophy blends competitive drive with academic excellence, a combination she says defines the “total package player.”
Among the returnees, junior midfielder Kyleigh Jannisch stands out after earning Second Team All‑Conference honors last season and contributing 11 points across 17 appearances. Her work rate, consistency and leadership on the field have earned her repeated praise from Marier.
Senior defender Annika Groendal, hailing from New Berlin, Wis., brings a defensive solidity that helped limit opponents to just 1.29 goals per game in 15 matches last year. Marier describes her as tough, smart and unselfish, noting her reliability and the trust she commands among teammates.
Season Opener Set for August 27
The Warriors will open the 2026 season at home against the University of Wisconsin–Parkside on August 27 at 5:00 p.m., a match that will test the early chemistry of a squad eager to contend for the NSIC title.
With a blend of seasoned leadership and fresh energy, the team aims to translate its preseason momentum into a competitive run that could challenge Minnesota State, the conference’s preseason champion, and bring a renewed sense of purpose to Winona State soccer.
