The Hilltoppers are set to make a splash at the Conference USA Kickoff & Media Day in Arlington, Texas, where Coach Tyson Helton will join offensive lineman Karsten Upchurch and defensive back Jaylen Lewis for a series of press conferences, media availability sessions, and a live ESPN+ broadcast.
ESPN’s Mike Corey will host the live show, adding a national audience to the event and highlighting the team’s momentum after a 9‑4 finish in 2025 that included a 27‑16 victory over Southern Miss in the New Orleans Bowl.
The preseason buzz extends beyond the coaching staff, as five WKU standouts have earned spots on the CUSA Preseason Watch List: Upchurch, Lewis, quarterback Rodney Tisdale Jr., defensive end LaTrevion Thompson, and wide receiver/punt returner K.D. Hutchinson.
A Program Poised for Bowl Eligibility
WKU’s consistent performance has earned a 100% confidence vote for bowl eligibility this fall, placing the Hilltoppers among only three Conference USA programs with that distinction. The team’s eighth bowl win in the past 12 seasons ties them with traditional powerhouses such as Alabama, Ohio State, and Wisconsin during the College Football Playoff Era.
Building on that success, the Hilltoppers will open the 2026 season on the road at Nevada on September 5. Kickoff at Mackay Stadium is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network, giving fans another chance to follow the team’s ascent.
