WKU Hilltopper Basketball head coach Hank Plona announced the signing of freshman forward Joseph Adebayo for the 2026‑27 season, a move that adds a uniquely international dimension to the roster.
A Global Journey to Bowling Green
Adebayo’s path to the Hilltoppers began far from the familiar courts of Kentucky. He spent his early teenage years playing basketball in Japan, where he honed his skills against a competitive high‑school environment.
After returning to the United States, he completed a preparatory year at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut, a program known for developing elite prospects before they enter college.
During the 2025‑26 season, Adebayo also competed on the club circuit with Team New England, gaining exposure to high‑level amateur competition and further refining his game.
Plona emphasized that Adebayo arrives physically prepared to contribute right away, citing his size, strength, and the energy he is expected to bring to Diddle Arena, the Hilltoppers’ home venue.
The coach described the newcomer as possessing a strong work ethic and a competitive drive that aligns with the program’s culture, noting that Adebayo’s diverse background adds a fresh perspective to the team’s dynamics.
Fans can look forward to seeing how the Nigerian‑born forward integrates his international experience with the existing roster, potentially reshaping the Hilltoppers’ style of play in the upcoming season.
