Preseason Honors and Recognition
WKU Soccer has been recognized by Conference USA as it placed three of its standout players on the preseason all‑conference squad, highlighting the program’s rising profile. The Hilltoppers earned a fourth‑place finish in the league’s preseason poll, underscoring their competitive outlook for the upcoming season.
Abby Wiedermann, a defender who anchored a back line that allowed just 0.86 goals per game last season and earned Defensive Player of the Week honors twice, brings a disciplined presence to the defensive unit.
Georgia Liapis, the reigning CUSA Midfielder of the Year, led the offense with nine goals and two assists, showcasing her playmaking ability and earning a spot on the all‑conference first team.
Freshman sensation Makenna Egan captured CUSA Freshman of the Year after contributing five goals and four assists, and she was also named to the All‑CUSA Second Team, underscoring her immediate impact.
Exhibition Games and Season Opener
The Hilltoppers will open their preseason schedule with a home exhibition match against Samford on August 7, a game that is open to the public at no charge.
The regular season begins a week later when WKU travels to face Missouri on August 13, marking the start of a challenging slate of conference fixtures.
All home events at the WKU Soccer Complex, including the preseason exhibition, are free to attend, inviting fans to support the team from the stands.
