As Memorial Day weekend approached, the Nevada Wolf Pack football team swapped the usual practice field for the bustling floor of Reno Tahoe Steel, where they faced off against the plant’s workforce in a series of light‑hearted challenges.
A Friendly Rivalry on the Factory Floor
The competition featured weightlifting stations, plank holds, bench‑press contests and a spirited tug‑of‑war, allowing players and steelworkers to test strength side by side.
Head coach Jeff Choate took part in the bench‑press segment, using the moment to stress how such interactions help forge a brotherhood with the community and extend the Wolf Pack’s brand beyond the stadium.
The event formed part of a packed week of outreach, during which the team has visited schools, charity drives and local businesses, reinforcing its commitment to the Reno area.
For Charles Brown, a former Wolf Pack standout who now works at the steel plant, the collaboration feels like a natural extension of the relationships built during his playing days, while the company also recruits engineers from the University of Nevada, linking academic talent with industrial needs.
