A new season of growth
The sport continues to gain momentum as several institutions announce the addition of varsity women’s flag football programs for the upcoming academic year. Saint Mary‑of‑the‑Woods College in Indiana will field a varsity squad beginning in 2027‑28, while Wiley University in Texas plans to transition from a club team to varsity status the same year. Alverno University in Wisconsin and Albright College in Pennsylvania are also set to field competitive teams, signaling a broader push to institutionalize the sport at the collegiate level.
Alongside program expansions, a flurry of coaching positions have been posted across the country. Albright College named Eric Martin as its head coach in September 2025, and the team is slated to compete in the 2026‑27 season. Citrus College in California appointed Michael Orantes Jr. as strength and conditioning coordinator and assistant defensive coach for the same period. Numerous other schools, including Bowling Green State University, Cal Poly SLO, and Dickinson State University, are actively recruiting for head coaches, assistant coaches and graduate assistants to build or support emerging programs.
A competitive job market
The newsletter lists a dozen plus openings ranging from defensive coordinator roles at Arizona Christian University to graduate assistant positions at institutions such as Bethany College, Eastern Connecticut State University and Manchester University. Some programs, like Grand Canyon University, are seeking assistants for men’s flag football, while others, including Life University and Lindsey Wilson College, are looking for graduate assistants to support their women’s squads. This surge in hiring reflects both the rapid growth of the sport and the need for experienced staff to guide new teams through their inaugural seasons.
Beyond U.S. campuses, the newsletter highlights postgraduate pathways for athletes who wish to continue their football careers abroad. The Guimond Vukovic Group (GVG) is offering one‑year master’s programs in the United Kingdom, providing a unique option for players who want to combine academic advancement with continued athletic development.
