A milestone for women’s sports
The Women's Pro Baseball League (WPBL) is set to make its national television debut on ESPN, marking the first time an all‑women professional baseball league has secured a prime‑time broadcast slot since the 1950s.
ESPN has signed an exclusive streaming agreement for the 2026 season, guaranteeing coverage of 37 games — including all 30 regular‑season contests and a minimum of seven playoff matchups — across its digital platforms in the United States and U.S. territories.
All of the games will be staged at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois, a 5,200‑seat venue that serves as a neutral site for the league’s four franchises: the New York Heights, Boston Hunters, Los Angeles Queens and San Francisco Firebells.
Co‑founder Justine Siegal, who broke ground as the first woman to coach a major‑league team, said the partnership with ESPN reflects years of work to give female athletes a professional platform.
The league’s roster features trailblazers such as Mo'ne Davis, who captured national attention as a Little League standout, and Kelsie Whitmore, the No. 1 overall draft pick who will wear the Firebells’ colors.
Beyond the on‑field storylines, the WPBL’s branding honors women who advanced civil rights, weaving historical significance into each team’s identity.
