The Harrisburg Woodies have cemented their place in South Dakota baseball history, capturing their second consecutive Class A state championship with a 3‑1 victory over the Renner Monarchs.
A Double‑Header Triumph
The championship game, played in front of a record‑breaking crowd, saw the Woodies rally after an early setback to secure the win, avenging a 6‑1 defeat they suffered earlier in the tournament.
Pitcher Tanner Brown was the workhorse on the mound, delivering 15 strikeouts while maintaining a 69.2% strike rate and allowing just one unearned run. His efficiency kept the Monarchs’ offense in check and paved the way for the Woodies’ comeback.
Behind the plate, catcher Mark Abrahamson, a native of Pipestone, handled the game’s strategic nuances and contributed offensively, while utility player J.T. Miller scored the Woodies’ first run, sprinting for Abrahamson as a courtesy runner.
MVP honors went to Dalton Lehnen, who finished the tournament with a .454 batting average and 11 strikeouts, underscoring his dual threat at the plate and on the mound.
The tournament also set a new attendance benchmark, drawing $92,670 in revenue from 88,437 fans over 12 days, a testament to the growing popularity of amateur baseball in the region.
Beyond Harrisburg, the Alexandria Angels captured the Class B title with a 12‑2 win over Clark, while the Windom Pirates swept Fairmont to claim the Minnesota Region 10C championship. Luverne also earned a state berth with a 12‑2 victory over the Jackson Bulls, and the town of Mitchell will host the championship again in 2027.
