The WPI Department of Athletics has launched a daily series that spotlights the most memorable moments from each varsity program as it looks ahead to the 2025‑26 season. While the series covers all sports, the spotlight has quickly turned to the women's field hockey team, whose recent achievements have become a focal point of campus celebration.
A Historic Tournament Breakthrough
The field hockey squad captured national attention by securing the program's first NCAA Tournament victory since 1989. In a tightly contested match, Chloe Luongo found the back of the net to score the decisive goal, sealing a 1‑0 win over Stevenson and sending the team into the next round of competition.
Goalie Myles Lakin was instrumental in the historic win, making 12 saves that kept the opposition at bay. His performance earned him the prestigious Carolyn McCabe Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions between the posts and cementing his status as a defensive cornerstone for the team.
Equally noteworthy was the honor bestowed upon Shannon Miranda, who received the Ray Cherenzia '73 Award. Lauren Meinhold was named to the NFHCA Division III Senior Team and collected CSC Academic All‑America Second Team honors, highlighting the program's emphasis on balancing rigorous scholarship with competitive play.
