Wrexham AFC is set to treat its first Carabao Cup encounter as the culmination of a busy summer of preparation, using the tie as the final dress rehearsal before the Championship campaign begins.
A Revised Preseason Agenda
The club will have logged five friendly matches across three continents, having spent time in Poland, Finland and the United States, where they will face Wisła Kraków, Manchester United, Leeds United, Liverpool and Sunderland in a whirlwind tour that blends local opposition with Premier League heavyweights.
Manager Phil Parkinson has repeatedly stressed that the priority remains league performance and the push for promotion to the Premier League, and the Cup game will serve as the last opportunity to give fringe players valuable minutes ahead of a grueling season.
The revised football calendar, which sees the Carabao Cup commence before the league season, has forced Wrexham to compress its warm‑up schedule, prompting a rotation policy that mirrors last year’s approach, a strategy that saw six players from the previous cup side move on.
The draw for the opening round is scheduled for 25 June, after which the competition’s first two rounds will be regionally split, meaning Wrexham could be paired with any northern section opponent, adding an extra layer of uncertainty to the fixture list.
