Strategic Outlook for the Shockers
Wichita State University’s men’s basketball program has finalized its 18‑game American Conference schedule for the 2026‑27 season, a slate that blends familiar rivals with fresh challenges.
The conference’s projection places six of WSU’s opponents in Quad 2, eleven in Quad 3 and a single Quad 4 matchup, while none of the league’s teams currently meet the Quad 1 thresholds that would guarantee high‑impact road victories.
Key matchups include home-and-away series against Memphis, South Florida and Charlotte, as well as double‑headers with Tulsa, North Texas and Tulane, giving the Shockers multiple chances to boost their NET rankings.
Outside the conference, WSU will test itself with a neutral‑site clash against USC on Nov. 8 and a home game versus New Mexico on Nov. 21, contests that could provide the early Quad 1 wins the team lacks within league play.
Coach Paul Mills, who guided the Shockers to a 24‑12 record and a third‑round NIT appearance last season, recently signed a five‑year contract, underscoring the university’s confidence in his vision.
The returning core — featuring Dillon Battie, Will Berg and T.J. Williams — will be bolstered by transfers Jordan Frison and Bryce Heard, adding depth and experience as the team aims to translate preseason momentum into postseason success.
