The college baseball transfer portal officially opened on June 1, and West Virginia University’s program is already feeling the ripple effects. While the Mountaineers are still competing in the NCAA postseason, coaches and staff are monitoring every player’s intentions as the portal becomes a daily source of movement.
The Transfer Landscape at WVU
Seven players have announced their intent to transfer out of WVU. The list includes Andrew Middleton, Bryson Thacker, Wyatt Mosley, Chase Meyer, Luke Lyman, Mac Stiffler and Ryan Maggy. Their departures create openings that the coaching staff will need to address as the season progresses.
Separately, ten athletes have been declared ineligible for the remainder of the campaign. Names on that roster are Ian Korn, Reese Bassinger, Carson Estridge, Ben McDougal, Matthew Graveline, Brodie Kresser, Paul Schoenfeld, Ben Lumsden, Sean Smith and Brock Wills.
Draft‑Eligible Candidates
Five players meet the NCAA’s draft‑eligibility criteria: Dawson Montesa, JJ Glasscock, Maxx Yehl, Armani Guzman and Tyrus Hall. Their eligibility adds a professional dimension to the roster’s evolving narrative.
Incoming Talent
The program is also welcoming a wave of new talent. Nine transfers — Austin Zience, Drew Becker, Zak Whitney, Robert Satin, Cash Williams, Owen Henne, Jack Cannon, Chase Ecker and Colton Hartman — have committed to join the Mountaineers. In addition, four junior‑college prospects — Korey Alston, Colin Coonradt, Seth Williams and Ryan Piekutoski — have signed, while a dozen high‑school recruits — including Blake Krushinski, Slade Barton, Kyle Casteel, Luke Coats, Colin Harrison, Jordan Burwell, Juan Araujo, Kayden Lipscomb, Joshua Viars, CJ Alfano and Henkel Acevedo — will arrive on campus this fall.
The flurry of movement underscores how the transfer portal is reshaping college baseball rosters in real time. For WVU, the mix of departures, new arrivals and draft‑eligible prospects will shape not only the remainder of the postseason run but also the program’s future trajectory.
