A Return to the Greenbrier Tip‑Off
The West Virginia University women's basketball squad is set to resume its non‑conference slate with a showdown against Northwestern at the luxurious Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, on November 13. The contest forms part of the annual Greenbrier Tip‑Off, a multi‑team showcase that will also feature Northwestern versus Appalachian State on the following day.
Intersport, a Chicago‑based sports marketing firm, is the creative force behind the event, handling everything from scheduling to fan experiences. The partnership marks a continuation of Intersport’s involvement in bringing high‑profile college basketball to the resort’s historic ballroom.
WVU enters the game riding the momentum of a breakout season a year ago, when the Mountaineers upset Duke in the same tournament and later advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32. That victory over the Blue Devils remains the program’s first win over a top‑10 opponent in the modern era.
Head coach Mark Kellogg, now in his third year at the helm, expressed enthusiasm about returning to the Greenbrier stage. “The atmosphere at the resort is electric, and I’m excited to test our squad against a disciplined Northwestern team,” Kellogg said in a pre‑event interview.
The two programs have met only four times historically, with Northwestern holding a 3‑1 edge. Their most recent encounter came in 2019, when the Wildcats edged a close contest. WVU’s sole victory over the Wildcats dates back to 2005, a 89‑55 blowout that still ranks among the program’s largest margins of victory.
Ticket Sales and Travel Packages
Tickets for the Greenbrier Tip‑Off will be made available to MAC members and season‑ticket holders on September 29, with general public sales following on September 30. The resort is also offering travel packages that bundle game tickets, on‑site accommodation and exclusive resort activities, providing fans with a full weekend experience.
Beyond the basketball action, the event showcases the Greenbrier’s renowned hospitality, from gourmet dining to spa treatments, positioning the tournament as a destination getaway as much as a sporting fixture.
