A Fresh Wave of Talent
The Wyoming Cowboys are gearing up for the upcoming season after a busy offseason that saw the program welcome nearly 50 new players. While the roster will see the departure of several top receivers and cornerbacks, the team has managed to hold onto key contributors such as running back Samuel Harris and defensive tackle Dante Drake.
Adding to the mix, the Cowboys have brought in a new quarterback, Tyler Hughes, who will look to inject fresh energy into the offense. Alongside him, the coaching staff has emphasized bolstering the backfield and line of scrimmage with a mix of experienced transfers and incoming freshmen.
Introducing Jarell Gary
Among the newest faces is wide receiver Jarell Gary, a Texas native who chose Wyoming over a handful of other programs. Gary arrives after a high school career that produced more than 3,600 total yards and 40 touchdowns, including 2,041 receiving yards and 1,237 rushing yards at Round Rock High School.
Head coach Jay Sawvel has spoken highly of Gary’s versatility, noting that his ability to impact the game both as a receiver and a rusher could prove pivotal. "Jarell brings a dynamic skill set that complements our existing personnel," Sawvel said in a recent interview.
The influx of talent reflects a strategic push by the Cowboys to remain competitive in the Mountain West Conference. With a blend of retained veterans and fresh recruits, the team hopes to translate its offseason activity into on‑field success when the season kicks off.
