The University of Wyoming’s football program is undergoing a major overhaul this offseason, with nearly 50 new players joining the roster as the staff looks to rebuild after a turbulent year.
Key Additions and Departures
Among those returning are running back Samuel Harris and defensive tackle Dante Drake, two of the team’s most reliable performers from the previous season, providing continuity at key positions.
The Cowboys also saw the departure of several top targets, including leading receiver Chris Durr Jr., and impact cornerbacks Tyrese Boss and Markie Grant, leaving gaps in the passing and secondary units.
To address those losses, Wyoming brought in graduate transfer quarterback Tyler Hughes from William & Mary, a move that adds a fresh arm to the offense.
The backfield receives a boost with 1,000‑yard rusher Markell Holman, while interior linemen Chandler Donaway, Jason Maciejcak and Jeremiah Katt arrive to shore up the line of scrimmage.
At tight end, three‑star recruit Ishmael Muhammad from Bishop Lynch High School in Texas arrives, having amassed nearly 100 receptions for over 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns in high school. Austin Maus, the team’s director of player personnel, praised Muhammad’s athleticism and the potential he brings to the passing game.
With a blend of seasoned returnees and fresh talent, the Cowboys hope the new pieces will click quickly as they aim to climb the Mountain West standings and contend for a bowl berth.
