The Wyoming Cowboys are gearing up for the upcoming season after announcing a massive influx of talent, with nearly 50 new players joining the program this offseason.
While the roster will see the departure of several key playmakers, including top receiver Chris Durr Jr. and impact cornerbacks Tyrese Boss and Markie Grant, the team has managed to hold onto core veterans such as running back Samuel Harris and defensive tackle Dante Drake.
Key Additions
Adding experience at quarterback, Wyoming secured graduate transfer Tyler Hughes from William & Mary, bringing a proven arm to the offense.
The Cowboys also bolstered their backfield with 1,000‑yard rusher Markell Holman and interior linemen Chandler Donaway, Jason Maciejcak and Jeremiah Katt, reinforcing a ground attack that last season ranked among the nation’s best.
A Legacy Arrives
Among the fresh faces, freshman linebacker Dante Bruley has quickly become a focal point. A legacy player from Chandler, Arizona, Bruley follows in his father’s footsteps and arrives with a pedigree that includes 134 career tackles, 101 of which came in his final high school season, and 18 sacks that topped his classification.
Head coach Jay Sawvel has praised Bruley’s relentless motor and playmaking ability, noting that the youngster’s athleticism and work ethic fit perfectly with Wyoming’s defensive philosophy. Bruley also attracted attention from Southern Utah, Northern Arizona and defending FCS champion Montana State before committing to the Pokes.
With a blend of seasoned returnees and promising newcomers, the Cowboys hope the new pieces will mesh quickly as they aim to contend in the Mountain West and beyond.
