A Weekend of Competition and Coastline
The YBOA Porter Sports Championship wrapped up on Sunday after a weekend of intense play across Bay County, bringing together more than 60 boys’ and girls’ teams from Florida, Georgia and Alabama.
Games were staged in a series of gyms, notably at Jinks Middle School, where the final buzzer signaled the end of a tournament that had been months in the making.
Youngsters as early as third grade laced up their sneakers, while parents and siblings took advantage of the surrounding beaches, turning downtime into sun‑soaked recreation.
Tournament Director Rob Hicks said the event attracted hundreds of athletes and their families to Panama City Beach, noting that many were eager to start morning games so they could later enjoy beach parties.
He added that the schedule was designed to give participants ample time for both sport and shore, blending competition with the region’s signature coastal vibe.
The closing day underscored how youth basketball can extend beyond the hardwood, offering a full‑featured experience that mixes athletic ambition with family‑friendly leisure.
