Georgia Tech entered the final stretch of fall camp with a clear picture emerging for its starting lineup, yet several position groups remain in flux as the coaching staff evaluates talent.
Quarterback Battle
Alberto Mendoza has seized the top spot at quarterback after a series of sharp performances, but the backup role is still up for grabs, with a challenger expected to separate himself before the last week of practice.
In the backfield, Justice Haynes and Malachi Hosley are slated to lead the rotation, while J.P. Powell, Trelain Maddox and Shane Marshall are also pushing for meaningful snaps.
The receiving corps will be anchored by Jordan Allen and Isaiah Fuhrmann, but Debron Gatling, Dalen Penson and a quartet of freshmen will battle for additional opportunities.
Gavin Harris, Chris Corbo, Spencer Mermans and Kevin Roche Jr. are slated to see extensive time at tight end, while the line is taking shape with Ethan Mackenny at left tackle, Kevin Peay Jr. at left guard, Joseph Ionata at center and a competition at right guard between Malachi Carney and Markell Samuel.
Jameson Riggs will protect the edge as the right tackle in the opening lineup.
Defensively, transfers Jaylen Mbakwe and Jonas Duclona are expected to make immediate impacts, joining veterans Tae Harris and Savion Riley, while freshman linebacker Braylon Outlaw is generating buzz despite likely not starting in week one.
With the season opener against Colorado looming in 19 days, the Yellow Jackets will return to the field for a final scrimmage before the kickoff, hoping to solidify the uncertainties that still pepper the roster.
