Youth Hockey Delegation Embarks on ‘Puck Diplomacy’ Tour Across Asia

Players, coaches and families from Vail International Hockey will travel to Mongolia, China and South Korea to foster global understanding through sport

A Global Journey on Ice

A group of young hockey players, their coaches and a handful of parents is set to depart on an ambitious ‘puck diplomacy’ mission that will take them from the wide‑open steppes of Mongolia to the bustling cities of China and the dynamic streets of South Korea.

Organized by Vail International Hockey, the trip is framed as both an athletic and educational experience, using the universal language of hockey to build bridges between cultures and encourage curiosity, respect and mutual understanding among the next generation of athletes.

During their stay the delegation will take part in friendly games, joint practice sessions and a series of cultural exchanges with local teams and families, while also visiting historic sites and learning about regional heritage.

Eric Eves, the trip’s chief organizer, says hockey has a unique power to bring people together, teaching teamwork, discipline and joy that extend far beyond the rink.

Parents and coaches will guide discussions on global awareness, leadership and responsible travel, preparing the participants to return home as thoughtful global citizens with broadened perspectives and deeper empathy.

In addition to the on‑ice activities, organizers hope to collect and donate 100 pairs of used hockey skates, along with used sticks and helmets, to support growing grassroots programs in the host countries.

Looking Ahead

The journey promises to leave a lasting imprint on the young athletes, who will return with new friendships, a richer appreciation for diverse cultures and a renewed sense of purpose as ambassadors of the sport.
